After picking up his second Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste trophy at Star Awards 2015 Show 2, Xu Bin was also crowned Toggle Outstanding Duke at the post show party on Sunday night. The final outcome which is decided by 50 percent public votes and 50 percent from Toggle’s editorial team saw him edge out fellow dukes Desmond Tan, Romeo Tan, Aloysius Pang, Zhang Zhen Huan, Jeffrey Xu, Ian Fang and Shane Pow to win the award.

In a backstage interview with the elated actor, the duke, who had performed a short tune on stage earlier, was particularly grateful for fans’ support during the past four weeks of voting. “This award was made possible thanks to my fans’ hard work… I hope to push out even better work in future and work towards becoming [a professional actor] like Aloysius (who got his first Best Supporting Actor nomination at this year’s Star Awards).”

Calling the seven other dukes his “strong competition”, Xu Bin said: “Each one of them has their own strengths – some can sing, some can act and some of them are even good at dancing. Everyone is good at doing something.”

Apart from attributing his win to votes from fans, Xu Bin shared that his exposure from Channel 8 long form drama 118 (watch it here) also worked in his favour.

“This drama is one that’s filled with love (and) everyone from the production crew to the cast of actors share a very harmonious relationship. The show is also very good exposure and sometimes when I’m at the kopitiam, everyone would call me by (my screen name) ‘Shun Shui’, instead of ‘Xu Bin’.

“This probably explains why my popularity is on the rise, because [through 118] a lot of uncles and aunties are familiar with me today.”

Xu Bin also had a special someone he wanted to thank during his interview with Toggle – fellow NoonTalk labelmate, Aloysius, whom he recently released a music single with.

“I’ve been telling myself that I hope to get recognised professionally, apart from winning popularity awards. I hope to work hard towards it like Aloysius. I really want to land a good role and develop my character well,” he quipped.

Before the end of the interview, Xu Bin shared that he wants to organise a large-scale fan-meet with Dasmond Koh to thank his supporters, especially since their last fan meet was held six months ago.
