Sheila Sim has FINALLY confirmed her honeymoon plans

After a lengthy bout of indecisive hemming and hawing in both interviews and private conversations about their honeymoon plans, Sheila Sim and her husband, banker Deon Woo, have finally settled on something – and it sounds like it might be worth the nine-month wait.

The setting: the Dolomites mountain range in north-eastern Italy. The scene: views that look like they were plucked from a fantasy epic. The activity: hiking. Sounds picturesque and romantic, and also poetically apt for a couple that got engaged on a snowy peak in Hokkaido.

We learned about the model-turned-actress’s brief itinerary one night when we tagged along with the cast and crew of Reach for the Skies for a four-day filming trip in Bintan last month. It was getting late and everyone had had a long day, but the 34-year-old was brimming with excitement and anticipation as she gushed about her upcoming two-and-a-half-week European getaway, which will take place after filming for the long-form drama wraps next month.

“We’ll be going to Santorini (Greece), and then Venice and Florence (Italy) as well, but the highlight is the hiking trip,” she beamed. What makes the activity even more meaningful is the fact that hiking is, as Sheila put it, “kind of our thing”. “We never really hiked before we met each other, but we climbed Mount Rinjani (in Indonesia) during our first overseas trip together, and subsequently, we continued exploring trails in Singapore regularly.”

The idea for their upcoming expedition, she shared, came about when they were researching online on where exactly to go in Italy, their country of choice (many folks had encouraged them to honeymoon in Europe). “I came across this picture of the Dolomites and I was like, ‘Oh my god, darling, I want to go there!’ We were so mesmerised by the photos.”

However, not wanting to be deceived by what could potentially just be masterful Photoshop and misleading filters, they wisely decided to look for videos instead. The verdict? “It’s legit, man,” she proclaimed. “So we decided we’re going to spend five days on the hike.”

We’re already looking forward to the photos and Instagram Stories.

Is Sheila’s husband comfortable with all the attention?

At the time of our chat with Sheila, she was just about to cross the half-a-year mark of being a married woman, and she reported that it’s “been very good so far”. “In fact, it’s even better than when it started,” she said, explaining that in the beginning, there were things they had to get used to such as living together and suddenly becoming another person’s spouse.

Joey [Swee] told me that some men automatically become more stressed after they get married because suddenly, they have this new responsibility as a husband,” she shared. “I think [Deon] had problems dealing with that at first – he became a bit more territorial and I also became a bit more defensive because I wanted my own space, so there were things we needed to work out, but now we have settled in really well and are enjoying our time with each other.”

She has also become a lot more open about her relationship on social media – a far cry from the days of her obscuring his face and referring to him only by his first initial. Because of that, Deon has become somewhat of a public figure himself as well (whether he likes it or not).

“It’s funny because just the other day, he was buying juice at the hawker centre and someone asked him if he is Sheila Sim’s husband,” she chuckled. “He’s very shy so sometimes he doesn’t really like the attention. He’s okay when he’s with me but when he’s on his own he’s like, ‘Ugh, what is this newfound attention?’ (laughs)”

What’s even more amusing – to Sheila, at least – is that his twin brother Wayne has been roped into this whole fiasco as well. “Technically speaking, [Deon] signed up for this when he married me, but his poor twin brother didn’t, and yet he still gets all the attention with people either mistaking him for my husband, or asking if he’s Sheila Sim’s brother-in-law! So it’s very funny! (laughs)”

Don’t worry, Deon and Wayne, we’re sure you guys will get used to it after a while.

While we wait for Sheila to flood our feeds with picturesque images from her upcoming honeymoon, we take a look back at some of our favourite posts from her Instagram featuring her husband. So. Sweet.

You know a couple is still in their honeymoon period when they go out for an ikura (salmon caviar) feast to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of just knowing each other (don’t get us wrong – we think it’s a good thing). While the photos of their sumptuous Japanese dinner made our tummies growl, this candid shot of Sheila guffawing – we can almost hear her – at something Deon said simply warms our hearts.

Sheila shared a super long and loving quote about finding someone “who is patient, forgiving, and apologetic”, “humble, kind, and empathetic”, “who never belittles you”, “who is gentle with you, but does not treat you like you are fragile” and other ideal traits for a life partner, saying that when she read it, she “felt every word was describing” her hubby. “Thank you for being the best possible husband for me.” Awww…

The occasion? “#maybebecausehemadelunchforme”, she wrote at the very end of her caption. Well, sometimes it’s the simple things in life that are the best.

For Sheila’s birthday this year, Deon organised an entire day out filled with activities that he knows she loves, including a surprise terrarium-making workshop. Seriously. Does that not sound like a scene from a Korean drama or what?

“You still surprise me by how well you really know me, darling. I love every bit of my 34th Birthday. I love being Mrs Woo. Thank you for being you [Deon], I love you (sic)”, Sheila gushed. Where do we submit our nomination for Husband of the Year?

Our favourite sentence from Sheila’s Valentine’s Day tribute to her husband is not “I don’t believe in celebrating love only on Valentine’s Day, bcos (sic) love should be celebrated everyday with the people you love”, nor is it “I’m lucky to marry someone who believes the same”, but “Happy Valentine’s Day, [Deon]. I love you, but not more than I do on other days”. Still makes us chuckle until now.

And here, we have the very first time Sheila revealed Deon’s face on Instagram. Never forget. “With you, I am home. I love you”, she wrote. Short and sweet because that’s all this needs.

Special mention

Okay, so neither of these posts were dedicated to Deon, but we wanted to include these pics here because, don’t you think they look so adorable with a kid (that’s Deon’s brother’s daughter)? You know what we’re trying to say. Wink wink.
